(4)) that off-axis illumination of an on-axis hologram always shifts towards the blue end of the spectrum. From the vector analysis, we can see that this result holds true no matter what the angle of the reference or object beams: the diffracted and Bragg-matched output vector is always shortest (and thus the wavelength is always longest) when the illumination is in the direction of the fringe vector (and perpendicular to the fringes). The wave vector analysis explains the cosine terms in Eq. (6) of the last chapter as well: the case of off-axis reference and object beams creating a hologram that shifts red when illuminated and viewed perpendicularly. When the reference and object beams are both off axis, the grating vector becomes shorter by a function of the cosine of the beams angle to the emulsion. The length of the illumination and output vectors that satisfy the Bragg condition also vary as a function of the cosine of the angle to the emulsion, with the shortest vector, and reddest reflected color, coming on axis when costlis greatest. Unlike the previous chapter s results, though, this vector analysis model holds true for any angle of exposing or illuminating beams; we can match illumination and output vectors to the resulting grating vector independent of whether the fringes are parallel to the emulsion. As you can see, this vector analysis is extremely powerful for understanding how holograms -any holograms -behave.

As mentioned, using getAscii() lets you compare keys even when the comparison key is variable. The following simple example illustrates that. In the code, you use a function to update the character displayed in a text field each time the user pressed a key. When the user presses a key, the code checks if the key the user pressed matches the character displayed in the text field, and it displays either true or false in the Output panel.

Strictly speaking, the term tertiary structure refers to the overall fold of a single polypeptide (as noted above). Yet while a collagen triple helix can be formed from a single polypeptide, the collagen triple helix that makes up the collagen fold is actually constructed from three different collagen polypeptides linked together initially by disulphide bridges. Therefore, the collagen triple helix that comprises the collagen molecular fold should perhaps be described not as the tertiary structure of collagen but as a form of quaternary structure (see Section 1.2.6). Nevertheless, when bone is formed, collagen molecules associate through their collagen triple helices forming extended bundles that mineralise to form the matrix of bone. Arguably, we should characterise these bundles as the collagen quaternary structure instead. In conclusion, we would like to point out that there is a small population of single polypeptide proteins whose tertiary structures are actually a combination of globular and brous protein folds including dominant but not exclusive PII triple helical regions. These are regarded as hybrid proteins that are both globular and brous proteins simultaneously.

Stock charts are most useful for displaying stock market information. These charts require three to five data series, depending on the subtype. Table 2-12 lists Excel s four stock chart subtypes.

There is at least one unique bioassay for each biocatalyst. A bioassay is used to generate rate data, namely the variation in initial rate of substrate to product conversion as a function of initial substrate concentration [S] while keeping the biocatalyst concentration constant throughout (Figure 8.13). Rate data may itself be determined as a function of temperature, pH, ionic strength and even other xed concentrations of second, third or even fourth substrates. This rate data is then processed by means of any number of appropriate steady state kinetics equations to give standard biocatalytic parameters (that will be described below) and an indication of the surface mechanism by which the biocatalyst brings about biocatalysis. These standard parameters allow for simple comparisons between biocatalyst performances.
